OUR SERVICES

Individual Supports

People with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities are often able to better perform basic tasks of everyday life such as communicating, interacting with others, completing daily living routines, and moving in and around their homes and communities when individual supports are provided when needed. We provide individually-adapted health strategies support individuals to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines by teaching skills such as goal setting and problem-solving. These strategies are tailored to a person’s individual interests and needs.

  • Personal assistance. Adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (and parents of minor children with I/DD) should be able to hire and fire personal assistants to help them perform everyday activities, make decisions, and exercise control over their lives.

  • Communication. People learn to communicate in many ways, such as personalized gestures and sounds, picture symbols, manual signs, and spoken language. Support must be available to help improve an individual’s communication and social interactions as well as reduce challenging behaviors.

  • Assistive technology. People must have access to devices, services, and training that enhance independence, mobility, communication, environmental control, and self- determination. The ways assistive technology can be used must be assessed throughout a person’s life cycle and as needs change. Designers, manufacturers, service providers, educators, and people with I/DD and their families should be educated about the benefits of technology.

COMMUNITY BASED SUPPORTS

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) often need community-based long term supports and services (LTSS) to support their needs and to live as independently as possible. This includes assistance with daily activities, such as getting dressed, taking medication, preparing meals, job coaching, residential supports, and managing money.

RESPITE SERVICES

Respite care is for a short-term break for caregivers. When you look after someone who’s sick or disabled, it’s a 24-hour job. You need a break from time to time to look after your own needs. That’s where respite care can help.

Respite care can take place:

  • In your home

  • At special day-care centers

  • In residential centers that offer overnight stays

Your breaks can be as long or short as you need them to be. You can set up respite care for a few hours, a day, a few days, or a few weeks.
